i don't even have any yet except some brown mushrooms, my tank is a 150 gal. my lights are the 785 watt mh from odyssea, but they are not set up yet, i have aprox. 2400 gph turnover is that enough? what is considered strong flow(is that in front of my 900 gph powerhead or will my 295 gph maxi-jets be considered strong flow?) it is a 6 ft. tank so i figure corals needing strong flow on the ends next to the ph's then placing the medium flow's about 1/3 of the way in then the low flows placed on the lr kind of tucked in between them (rocks) next is the lighting, i will have a little over 5 watts per gal. is that strong enough to reach down to the bottom of the tank? i'm not at home to check tank height but i'm pretty sure it is 27 in. deep. next question is the light cycle which lights come on 1st. the actinics like an hour or 2 before the mh's? same with going off? i was figuring actinics would come on, then 1 hour later the mh would come on for 9 hours then 1 hour later the actinics would turn-off and the moonlights would come on is that right, or not i'm not sure. then i need info for calcium levels and what are the other things i need to check for right now all i check for is the ph, amonia, nitrite, nitrates, salinity, temp. also at this time i am using instant ocean salt from what i have gathered this will have to be changed to what brand/type guide me please i figure that at water changes i just start mixing with the new brand and eventually it will be all out (instant ocean) what additives do i need to keep?there are so many they confuse me, also what brands are reccomended i want the best if it cost too much 2nd best will do. if i missed anything please tell me i know i through alot out there but if you don't know ask. and i won't buy any corals till i at least have some knowledge, oh 1 more thing i have a blue tuxedo urchin will i need to get rid of him, i hope not,but if i do i will and one more thing do you just place the corals or do you use an adhesive. sorry about all the questions thank you all tobin

I run my actinics 1 hr prior to the MH coming on.. I have the mh on for 8 hrs. and then run the actinics 1 hr after... Calcium levels should be around 420. I would not add any additives that you can't test for. Proper water changes will replenish any trace elements you will need. Also do a search for kalkwasser. I drip lime water at night to help stabilize the drop in ph at nighttime and it also helps maintain calcium and alkalinity levels. This forum is a great place to learn about reef aquariums. There are many things that you will find info on by searching the forums.

yes i do but i need to upgrade, when i had my 29 set up i had the don't laugh please the seaclone 100, so i went and bought my 150gal. knowing i would need to upgrade dang near all my equipment so i ordered the prism pro deluxe rated up too a 300 gal. problem was it would not fit under the stand, and the hood did not fit without notching it, so me being the perfectionest that i am i decided to run my little sea-clone till i get a different skimmer that will fit properly under my stand and yet is rated for at least 300 gal. with the little seaclone i figure light skimming is better than no skimming ( i want a 300+ skimmer because of the 55 gal. sump/fuge inside of the stand, which is a total of 205 gal. system) if anyone knows of a good quality skimmer that is rated for what i need and doesn't cost a ton of money please let me know thanks tobin.... :happyfish
