I've got a five stage RO/DI unit that I got on ---- for a great price brand new. ? is how the heck do I tell when the cartridges need to be changed, and where do I get them? Are they universal?
Cheers!

I don't know if they are universal but you should be able to get them from the same company that sold you the unit. Go to ---- and look for a tds meter and use it to test the ro/di water once in a while to see when to change the filters. HTH

when my filters need to be changed the membrane on the first stage of my unit starts to turn yellow. and, chances are you bought yours from the same company, the send me reminders periodically as well. they should have a website if it is the company i'm thinking of. would post it but i'm not allowed to since swf.com sells ro/di units.

Instead of going to your grocery store to get ro/di water, you install your own ro/di "machine" to make your own ro/di water.

It is nice to have one at your house, but you do have to take into account changing the filters and having somewhere to store all your water. In response to when to change filters, many DI cartridges are color change and that let's you know when it needs changing, other than that you should get a TDS meter (about $25) it should read below 5 anything above that and you should change your filters, as a general rule, the sediment filters need to be changed every 3-6mo the carbon around every 6mo, the DI (when color changes) and the RO membrane should last 2yrs. Of course all that depends on how much water you are filtering through the unit.

Cool, thanks for the replies! I guess I should check with the company that makes the unit for replacement membranes and such... my DI isn't color changing (wish it was now)... it probably doesn't last too long... should a TDS meter tell me when to RPL that as well?
Thanks again.
