New to saltwater

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to pop on and say hello.
My mom (Mona Lisa) has been doing saltwater now for almost a year and she has really shown me the ropes. For Christmas, I got my own 55 gallon tank and am planning to get it cycling in late March. For the past couple of months I have been doing lots of reading and research on my own. I am hoping to get a semi-aggressive tank up and running eventually. I'm sure you all will be a great help. I have been reading on these boards for months now and know it is a great resource.
til then,

Welcome to yo u,
Boy, you sure are patient! When I received my tank as a Christmas present, I was at the lfs the next morning and had it full of water and sand by sundown, ordered my lights, sump and skimmer and had it full of live rock with a couple of powerheads going by the end of the week.!
Good luck to you-you are sure starting out right by reading everything you can get your hands on.

I'm still working on that. I think I would definitely like a Valentini puffer...but am working on what would be compatible (and size-appropriate). Tell me what you think of this line-up:
Valentini puffer
Flame Angel
Maroon Clown
Goby or blenny of some kind
I am trying to find out what types of inverts would be safe to have with the puffer (for a clean up crew) and if I should chance trying to put corals in with him. Any opinions and/or advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

Actually, I am being forced to be patient with this one. We have a dive trip to Cozumel coming up in March, so I need to wait until we return to get things set up. Plus...I don't have a stand yet.

I just got back from Cozumel last month. Man they got trashed the diveing was not as great as it was before the storms, but it is still ok My wife wanted to go to Senior Frogs but there was nothing left of it Carlos and charlies was open bairly. They said that they should have both running in full with in a month or two. I wish you a great time and hope that the diveing is better for you then it was for us.

I heard that it just isn't the same there yet...
What kind of damage did you see diving? Sand coverage? Reef damage? Were there still a lot of fish? Not to get too off track, but I am curious...

There were still quite a few fish and the reefs you can tell that they got hit fairly hard but they are recovering. We also dived in Costa Maya which was not hit hardly at all and the diveing there was good also. I think you will still have a good time in Cozumel there is still alot of diving to do. Some friends that went with us went to a diferent location and they said that did not see anything just a bunch of ruble in the water and some of the roads were GONE.

I think one of my recent fishy mags had an article on puffers, I will check it out and share anything that seems helpful with you.
