Welcome to the boards!!

You will want to take all of the CC out and put LS in. In that size tank you really shouldn't have any fish but a percual clown would be ok, or 2 neon or clown gobies. A 10 gallon tank would be best if you put a shrimp in it with some corals instead of putting fish in it though. You have to wait for it to cycle before you can put anything in. It has cycled when you see the ammonia go up and down, nitrites go up and come down, then the nitrates will go up and you do water changes to bring them down to 0. If you have any other questions just ask.

Hi laurie and welcome,
You've came to the right place for help. There are thousands of people who belong to this message board. Most of the people here are very helpful and knowledgeable(sp). Most people preffer LS to CC. Being that unless the CC is cleaned periodically it becomes a nitrate trap. MY opinion would be LS. Fi8ll it up with sw at a specific gravity of aroung 1.025 and let it cycle. What other equipment do you have? Are you going FOWLR or reef? What kind of filtration?

There are no silly questions when doing saltwater tanks! Please do not be afraid to ask a question on this board about your tank. Almost all of us have probaably had the same question at one point or another. This board has been invaluable to me in setting up and taking care of my tanks.

Don't worry Laurie, I was new two months ago and am still very much a beginner having just got my first tank. A 90 gallon that I had my lfs set-up for me. They installed that stand-up side down and nobody laughed at me just the stupid idiots who installed it. They are wonderful here with lots of experience and knowledge that they love to share. These people just don't talk, they have been there and done that and ir you want to see something go to the fish photography section and look at some of their tanks.
Welcome to the boards and enjoy your tank and ask away.

Do I need a protein skimmer for the tank? Some say yes, and some say no????? I saw a small one. The problem with the tank is that it is a wall mounted so the dimensions are 45 L x 26 H x 4 Depth. It is an awesome tank. There is one out there that is small.
