Hi guys, I'm new to SWF and SWF.com. I started my 20 gallon long tank about 3 weeks ago and I have 2 clown fish 2 turbo snail, 2 hermit crab, crash coral, and about 10lb of live rocks in it now. I’ve learned a lot thanks to this site and want to thanks everyone who shared their info with us newbie's. Heres are some pics of my tank.

You've got a nice start. Is that crushed coral on the bottom? You may want to consider switching to live sand. Crushed coral tends to be a detritus trap, which can lead to nitrate problems.

Yeah, you really need to stock up on some more live rock. Looks like you are using crushed coral?

I started with CC years ago and it really does trap detritus and if you decide to change it out for sand, as I did after many years, it is a gosh awful mess. I am so glad I did it, but it was a lot of work in an established tank. Yeah, I recommend more rock for your tank. Your aquascaping looks good so far and when you do add more LR, suggest keeping it off the edge of your tank to make cleaning easier.
Agree on using base rock-a lot cheaper than fully cured LR but it can take awhile to mature into LR, especially in a new tank. Good luck with the tank and keep posting those pictures!

There's nothing wrong with crushed coral, as long as you vacuum it out once a month... It's a great start.
A lot of people use live sand, and claim it to be better, but as long as you maintain a crushed coral bed, there's nothing wrong.

I'm betting the live rock you got was pretty expensive. What are your plans for this tank? Is it going to be a Reef?

im just learning how to keep a swf alive right now lol. starting of slow til i move to hawaii and then i'll start a 120g tank :) . The LR were expensive, it was 8 bucks a lb. but good looking rock tho. I dont know if i want to get more LR cause i am going to move to hawaii in about 4-5 months then i'l save up for a 120g.

Welcome!
Im in the process of sifting my crushed coral out of my tank and its only a little over a month old. Before you get it too established I would recommend gettin it out of there. JMO

Nice looking rock though! Cant wait to see its journey.

Yeah, I had the same problem when I started. I wish someone would have flat out told me: DON'T GET CC! GET SAND! Of course, a lot of people have great luck with the crushed coral.
