Hi and welcome to the site. You can only have one pair of clowns in a 75g. When it comes to SW fish many don't get along well with fish of the same body type or color... A pair, or at the most 3 are all you can keep.
The cost of start up depends on what you want as far as equipment. Are you purchasing everything new? Going with coral or having an anemone requires strong lights which are expensive. Clowns do just fine without having an anemone, and there is no guarantee they will go to an anemone even if it's there.

Decide if you want to go with corals or fish only. Upgrades are costly, and it's best if you get what you want from the start. Trying to save an extra $100.00 by purchasing a $200.00 light, isn't worth it if you wait a month and decide to get the $300.00 light after all...you will have spent $500.00 in the end.
The basics:

  • Your tank, stand

  • Salt mix

  • Test kits (lab type, getting a master kit will save money)

  • Live or dry Rock (must be suitable for SW if you go with dry)

  • Aragonite sand (live sand is best, but dry is okay..do NOT get crushed coral)

  • Some type of filter...sump system or canister are the best. IMO...The larger the filter system the better.

  • Skimmer. (size for your tank..not larger) A sump skimmer is easier to deal with than a HOB that you must use with a canister.

  • Heater ...sized for your tank
    Lights
    Hydrometer or Refractometer
    thermometer
A Good beginners book so you can have some basic understanding to help you ask the right questions.
I figure for all new equipment w/reef lights
    10g to 30g....$1000.00
    40g to 100g...$2000.00
    100g to 225g...$3000.00
Those are ball park figures, you can find used equipment, and deals from people selling anything from tanks to livestock to defray the cost. Start up, is the biggest cost.

yep expensive to start and just as much to keep going.test kits, salt, refractor ect...
best bet it to search craigslist for someone getting out of the hobby

I think that is way overpriced!!! For a used system that had been used for three years. I would not pay more then $500.00 for all of that. You should be paying around $1.00/ gallon for a tank off of craigslist. Then maybe $2.00/lb for the live rock. The cannister filter seems old and the HOB skimmer might not be the best. Looks like this guy is trying to get almost all his money back. Keep looking, and maybe expand your search area. Good Luck. BTW try to get a reef ready tank that is pre drilled.
