ich is a parasite. when it's visable on the fish it isn't vulnurable to medication or sterilizer. however, in some part of its life cycle, it detaches. i would think that, then, it would be killed by the sterilizer. mayble not. even if it doesn't kill the ich, which i don't know why it wouldn't, a sterilizer will destroy other free floating pathogenic bacteria, viruses, or parasites which will keep your fish healthier. thus the fish will be less likely to get any kind of sick, even ich.

ICH bacteria can live in the water, free floating for 10 days. If you have a UV sterilizer with the proper wattage for your water flow, you can achieve a 100% kill rate on ICH and a slew of other bacterias. I am running a 40W Lifeguard and have not had any issues with ICH since it's installation. I only got the UV because I got tired of feeding live brine, adding a new fish or other item only to have my other established fish come down with something they didn't have before the new addition. It got real old! The bad thing about the UV though is it does also kill other good bacterias and nutrients.
