Ours have been in our tank for a week and a half...they only seem to pulse when the lights on our tank are off....Did we get Special Ed Xenias?
**Side note...no offense to anyone who was in Special Ed. I taught Special Ed. in an elementary school...just making a joke...

I belive I read not all xenias will pulse. That is ok. I have xenias who only pulse when my main lights go off. The stalks are multiplying and growing huge. I bought the blue xenias off of here and they will look beautiful when they get bigger. They are 1/2 inch now.

They do stop pulsing sometime so they don't always pulse but it doesn't mean its doing bad. It will start pulsing again when it wants to its just one of those behavior patterns it has.

I bought one thats already on a small rock and i put it in the middle of my tank on the floor...think that is sufficent enough? or should it be placed high on top of the LR? Also does it need to be in a high flow area?

The more lighting the better IMO. Unless you have strong lighting I would place it high in the tank.

Xenias prefer intense lighting and moderate water current. They tend to stop pulsing if the current is too strong. Also, they tend to grow towards the light and/or in the direction that the water current is flowing.
If kept under strong lighting they will grow extremely quickly and you can actually make money from selling frags. I'm proud to say that I have extensively fragged xenia myself for profit and trade. If you wish to view my findings, here is a link to the thread:

Yes I have to agree with what was said above, The stronger the lighting the faster they will grow. I have 2-250w MH on mine and my zenia does grow like weeds! I actually pull it out and throw it in the trash every few weeks when it grows on stuff I cant remove for frags.
It will grow on every rock it can reach, glass, powerheads, wire, on anything in the water. I have known some people to grow it in thier fuge's to harvest then remove nutrients out of the system.
