Purple Gorg, which I do not yet have a pic of, but my friend Beth and I purchased the purple gorg and divided it~ half for her, half for me. We did that as soon as we got it home from the LFS. Then I trimmed two small branches of my half and started 2 new little frags. That was about 3 weeks ago. All of the purple gorgs are doing great.
They're pretty neat little critters, but do need extra attention.

Keep in mind when you say that they aren't too hard to care for that your Braireum sp and other photosynthetic gorgonians are MUCH easier to keep and maintain than most of the azooxanthellate varieties - such as the Diodogorgia nodulifera in question.

Very true, however the problem I ran into with the photosyn gorgs is suffication from algae...which is another huge can of worms.

Indeed. You can always move the nonphoto gorgonians out of the light to prevent algae issues - but obviously not with photosyn species.

I've had this red one for 4 months now. At first it was doing very well. Then I noticed that it was not comming out to feed as it used to. It generally would have it's polups out for a few days then go in for a few then out for a week or so. I noticed that my nitrates had spiked to above 40 (got very busy for a while) so I took care of that right away through water changes.
It started doing better, but not before some die off. I cut the dead parts off. I'm hoping for new growth, but we will see.
I alternate feeding it photoplankton and Cyclopsees every other day and rotifiers when ever I see him open. I have him in a pretty good flow as well. I'm crossing my fingers, but these guys do not seem easy to keep....
