...found these just sitting in neglect at a very small LFS here in town....they looked sort of dull and listless in the holding tank but I had a feeling there was more to them than met the eye...took a chance....talked the owner out of them for $15....lugols dipped them...cleaned up a bit of algae...removed a dang parasite snail.....and placed them in my reef.....within 24 hrs the centers started to show a sweet purplish/blueish tint....dark green fringe.......sometimes it pays to trust those gut instincts!

I once convinced my LFS that the bright green Ricordia they had was just a regular mushroom, so I snagged it for $3.

This particular LFS is relatively new and the saltwater choices are rather limited...and its the only saltwater store in town. They get a selection of primarily LPS types about once a month....I know the owner(and he has visited my reef) real well and he allows me to barter deals and gives me good prices. Its real funny....along with the quick selling assorted LPS corals he gits from his supplier there will always be a few poor looking zoos and now and then a sweet little SPS type.....I guess I'm one of the few folks besides the owner that even knows what they are.
I got my fire coral there for a song and dance....
It was nearly dead....and now is in great condition....I also picked up a sweet(and cheap) pachyseris from him a few months ago....and to date I've managed to get 5-6 types of zooanthids for low prices....I just wait until they have been around a week or so then say...."ya know...nobody seems interested in that piece....what'll ya take for it?"...ya never know 'till ya ask!
