It is pretty much a safe haven for animals that normally would be picked on/attacked in your main set up. It gives you the opportunity to add animals that are helpful to your set up without the risk of fish eating them all in one day! Also lets you add plants that a herbivore fish would rip apart, helping you reduce nitrates/phosphates in your main system!

Yes pretty much. Some people set their refugium INSIDE their actual tank.. but still its a seperate tank.

Example.. You have your 50 gallon main tank.. you have a 10 gallon tank UNDER the main tank equipped with sand/plants/a rock or two with a tube letting water from your main setup enter and exit into it... thats your refugium

OOOOOOOok Now I get it. LOL Thats why i called it a newb question cause im a newb.
So what kind of pump do you have to buy? ( to pump water from the main tank to the 10 gallon.
Because i think i will do that . So can i put my protien skimmer in it and everything?
