Still here with the 220G. From what i am hearing I should stay away from canister filters. So now I'm leaning towards a wet/dry sump. My only ?'s are what is the rule of thumb for how many times in an hour do I want the water to be turned over? It will be setup with a 1.5 inch 50/50 LS/sand, with perhaps a crushed coral base? I will eventually be putting in some LR too. So am I cool if I have my tank turned over about 15 times an hour? is a wet/dry sump a sound choice? thanks every1 for your input it really helps!

by wet dry do you mean a bioballs system?
thoughts . .
if you are going to have LR and a DSB you really only need a skimmer and your system will run very smoothly. the reccommended turn over rate from what i have read is between 7-10 times per hour. for a 220 gallon tank you are talking some serious pumps :D
if you put crushed coral with a ls you will have crushed coral on top and a sand like bottom. (smaller particles shifting down.) what does the most good for a dsb is the anerobic (sp) bacteria that lives in to bottom part of your sand bed.
i was planning on upgrading to a 240 gallon, i was going to use 2 Iwaki WMD40RLXT's as y return pumps. you can get them for around 180 shipped. the external pumps are much more effecient that you inwater pumps.
