Hello there
I just bought the reef packages from swf and they are going to arrive soon. My question is do i need to do anything before pouring them into my 40 gallons tank? i also bought one of the cleaner shrimp, can i just float them on my tank for 1 hours and pour him in?
Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the board! Some people will just float snails and crabs. I have found that dripping ALL new stuff works better for me.

You need to drip acclimate inverts if you want them to survive. Inverts are very sensitive to water changes like that. Drip acclimate a good 2 hours for snails or they could die within a couple weeks.

I drip them if they come it water. A nice 2 hour drip. Then a 10 minute temp acclimation.
Get a Fish Acclimation Kit (item#26753) at the drs. This makes it easy. Best thing I ever got. No more airline tubes falling from the tank. No more tieing the tube. Nice and easy.

Don't just float them. Drip is easy and if they die and you don't follow SWF's acclimation process you can't get your money back if they die.
Inverts are very sensitive to salinity changes as well as pH. Very important that you drip them.
Skipping steps is a very bad habit in the hobby. But to answer your question, yes it is possible that they may live if you float them.
Hopefully you decide to drip them and if you do make sure you have some make up water ready to go because you need to discard the water you drip into the bucket.
