I finally got a saltwater tank. Been wanting one for years and it's finally here. Im going to be seting everything up soon once my fifty pounds of LR arrive. This is the hardware that I have for my 26 g bowfront tank so far:
125 gph HOB filter (w/ biowheel)
100 w heater
25 lbs. sand
light (it came with the tank)
I know I'm missing stuff for start up, but dont know what. Please help. I know I need to purchase power heads for current. Probably purchase two maxijet 400's on ----. Is 125 gph enough mechanical filtration for this tank? I just want to have a good start on this, any suggestions and words of advice?

Yes the filtration is fine and it won't do so much filtration but turn the water over and make sure its oxygenated. Your live rock will do most of the filtration of the water due to the bacteria it harbors. You need salt, hydrometer, thermometer, net, 5 gallon bucket/gas can(indispensible), and RO water. If you are going to have corals look into buying a skimmer around thanksgiving/xmas, and better lights. Try the 130 watt coralife lights. They would be perfect for your tank and can be found for the cheapest ive seen aside from retrofit kits.

Edit: oh and lots of reading material. Do your hw before buying. And you may want about 5 or 10 lbs more sand if you don't like the depth of the 25lbs.

Man this board helps, thanks. Yeah I plan on putting coral in there once it's established. So a protein skimmer huh? Might be a good xmas present. Would I need to get fancy and get an expensive one or can I get away with a low end one considering my tank isnt that big? And about them power heads two maxijet 400's should be enough for water flow, right?
