Hi everybody, first just want to thank everybody in here for their helpful advice. I recently ordered a new, and my first, acrylic tank. Its 125g. I was wondering what else do I need to get started when my tank arrives in about 3 weeks. Lights, protein skimmer...etc,.
I plan on having live rock, live sand, fish, and some invertebrates such as shrimp and snails. I don't think at this point I plan on having coral, worms, ... stuff like that. If you make recommendations can you please give me the actual name/brand so I can do my homework about it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

I don't know. Will I need one? What was suggested to me from where I purchased my tank was for a protein skimmer, wet/dry filter, and some t5 HO lighting. Thats all that they mentioned to get things up and running. Thanks

Will it have an internal overflow box or an external overflow box if you are going to have a sump?
I usually am on a strict budget when it comes to protein skimmers that are decently priced and work well, so I suggest something like a coralife 220. You may be able to find it on the two guys site pretty cheap.
Are you on a pretty strict budget or lax budget? Or could we tell you to just get Tunze and Deltec and BubbleKing everything and you can set it up that way?
Just some thought.
You're on the right track though. It takes a lot of research and a lot of patience but it is so well worth it.

well, in that case, you will need a sump tank, skimmer and return pump; in addition to lights, heaters, rock, and sand.
on my 125 i have a 40 L aquarium that i put baffles in and turned it into a sump. i use a mag 18 for a return pump, however i'm going to change it out for my mag 12 when i get a replacement part. how big are the holes that are drilled in your tank? they will determine the amount of flow your tank is capable of handling.
i suggest getting the best skimmer you can that will fit into the skimmer section of your sump. i've heard nothing but good things about octopus skimmers and they wont kill your pockets.
lights: depends on what you want to keep.
