dlc,
Welcome to the Board. You've certainly received an interesting indoctrination!
If by "airation" you mean adding air bubbles to your tank by way of an air-stone or other artificial device, the answer is DON'T. Air bubbles rie to the surface and pop. The water that leaves the tank because of that pop will dry on whatever surface it contacts. that's called "salt creep". Dried salt is hard to remove and can actually deflect light (if it dried on your light hood).
What you want is water movement within the tank. Typically, we look for water movement that equals 10 times tank volume per hour. I doubt the one power head you mentioned has that capacity. I'd add a powerhead or two. In my 45, I have 3 PH's and a mechanical flter.
I wouldn't add any "chermits" or hermits either until your cycle is complete. They're sensitive to ammonia too.

Jim,
Thanks for the response, Okay now I have found a kindred spirit with a 45.
Actually, the power head and skimmer will pull in air if you uncap the little hose.
So, the skimmer (Skilter 400) should provide all the oxygen needed?
I will hold off on any purchases till we get past the cycling !
