Hey mat dont say trust me my friend has a forty gallen tank with a yellow tang, and that it can live their, because these people know a lot more than you, and your friend told me he will have to up grade when the tang gets bigger, and the only reason he has it there now is because its a small one.
Also about the fire fish, last time I checked, it never hides, and the halk never attackes him.

I agree... No tang in a 40 gallon!!!
I would suggest a bi color Blennie... I got one this week and he is GREAT to watch!!! He has such a personality....
Actually, in the store he HID in a rock that had mushrooms on it and they couldnt get him to come out SO they gave me the rock and the blennie for 30 bucks........ BTW, my LFG upgraded my lighting so the mushroom coral will do fine.!
Also I got a regal tang.is powder blue the same) blue with yellow tail?? ..... that is it for now.....
The Box fish died :( after 3 days, i think the 2 3 strped damsels had something to do with it.... SO.... AFTER taking OUT 80 lbs of LR today I caught the little sh%^&*'s!!
They have a new home in my QT untill I retuen them to the LFS...
Thanking you kindly, Kim:rolleyes:

basslets be they a royal or a black cap would be great in a tank like the one you have mentioned above . .
while hawk fish will kill and eat smaller fish/shrimp/crabs . . they have to be able to fit it in their mouths.
i would not put a tang in a 55. while it is a nice size tank, tangs are free swimming fish that need lots of space to be happy. an unhappy tang can lead to an ick outbreak in your tank. and that could lead to to possible loss of all of your fish.

Like the others said, no tangs in a 55. Think of it this way, would you want to keep a small human in a crib? Sure at first the baby thinks its great, but then once it grows full size, the 6ft tall person might fit in it, but it sure would be hell to live in.

I have a 40 gal tank and a tang. I dont see what the problem is. Its relatively small. Its hte most active fish in the tank, it eats the algae off the walls, it loves to be fed, and its peacful. I can't imagine it being too small of a tank. So you can say whatever but i doubt my tang is going to die because the tank is too small

Hey Hhands, your tang will probably live great for about a year, but eventually it will out grow its tank, and eather cause to big of a bio load, or will get under stress from lose of swimimg space and since tangs get ick easiely, will develope ick and polute your whole tank.
sorry to say this but ya gotta do somthing.

now now, people, this is not the place
We do not need or allow behavior like that in here and it will not
be tolerated. We have a simple case of good advice eing taken the wrong way and then getting blown out of proprtion is all, but his neeeds to stop.
as for the tang, I generally do not advocate tangs in a 55 either and if you must, take a look at the koles tangs. Ultimately it is your choice. But they do need alot of swimming room and do get big. I definitely would never put one in anything smaller than a 55 gallon. AT ALL.
Hawks will harass and sometimes eat smaller fish from what I hear and firefish are not aggressive at all. If picked on, the only thing they will do is run and hide. If you have a fish pickingon one, it will robably be seen very little after that, and hide all the time or most of it anyway
