Night Light

I just setup a hang-on the back refugium over the weekend. As I understand, I need to keep the light for the refugium on 24 hours a day. By doing so, there is enough indirect light getting into the main tank so that maybe 1/3 of the tank is not dark at night. Is this OK? Will it cause any problems with excess algae growth?

Is there anyway you could sheild the light from getting in the tank? It will cause problems with algae if you leave lights on it 24/7.

I was thinking about fabricating some sort of shield but I am not exactly sure how to do it yet. Is it ok if some light gets in or should the main tank be completely dark?

It's ok for some light to get in but you don't want a lot to get in. If you could somehow put a shield around it that would be your best bet.
