Night light

What color light are you supposed to use to view your tank at night with out disturbing its inhabitants?

I use a flashlight with a red filter over it... cut it out from a red piece of plastic- from a folder... works fine-- nothing 'flinches' when i shine it at night...

I installed a 9W red compact under my canopy that seems to work well. Good Luck
