Hey guys,
I recently had a pretty large nitrate and trite spike in my 125 that has been set up for about 9 mos. now. I believe I have pinpointed the cause as addition of base rock that I should have cured, but my brain was missing the day I added it. Anyways i did a 50 gal water change at first, because it was so high it started killing a couple of my fish, then I did a 30 gal water change 2 days later and then a 20 gal, and then a 10 gal water change. The trates and trites went down to zero for about three days, but they have since gone back up and the trates are running somewhere around 20 and the trites somewhere around 3. I have been doing about a 10% water change every other day. I just can't seem to shake this thing down any other thoughts on what might help besides water changes or is that the best idea?
And am I doing them the right amount and frequently enough?
thanks Sean
