Yes C.C. will produce nitrAte problems after awhile you will remove it for sand, as I am doing now. After reading lots of archives I have come to the conclusion that C.C. and under garvel filters are a thing of the PAST.(exceptions where they apply)

#3 tropills, I dont mean to queston you,but will this work, have you seen it work before. I would like to give it a shot, what kind of tiny bulb would you use for a tiny light lamp.
no problem, just get a small clamp on bedside light or desk light, then a
6500k twist bulb (compact fluorescent)the total cost may be $12.00 for all of it. I've had one on a 20 gallon before, worked well for what it was. ask some people on here or look in the DIY section or do a search for it on here, there are several people that use them and are still using them.

you don't need much, maybe a sandwhich bag full is all, it won't take long to grow to the point you will have to cut it back and trade or sell it.

Cool, a sandwichbag is pretty cheap. So how fast does this stuff usually work. I am in no hurry because my trates are low enough for some fish and I won't get corals for a while.

well it's hard to say, with your trates' being as low as they are, you should notice some change within a month. where are you located ? any where near upstate NY ?
