Nitrate question

I have a AQUARIUM PHARM test kit, in the instruction manual it states nitrates are measured as nitrate ion or total nitrate while other test kits are measured as nitrate-nitrogen. It also states that other test kits will give a reading 4.4 times less that theres.
 My question is what nitrate am i to be concerned about, on the aquaium pharm kit my nitrate readings are around 20, which is total nitrates, that would only be 4.5 nitrate nitrogen.
In my tank i have corals, fish and inverts, from what I have read, I want to keep my nitraes down to > 10 ppm but on which scale????

I'm not totally sure but I believe they all test the same.I would get a salifert test kit there very accurate and its good to have a accurate test kit for nitrates but others such as ammonia or nitrites any reading isnt good.

Nitrate is a negative ion...how a particular company developes a test for that is an individual "our test is better" type of issue...but the Nitrate is an ion.
