Nitrate Testing

I was wondering what the real difference was between low range and high range nitrate testing. I have a tank that has been up and running for 3.5 months now and recently whenever I do a low range test for routine monitoring, I get a zero reading. Either this is a good thing, or I am doing something wrong. Can someone please shed some light, on what is my cloudy head.

I don't have the specifics but I would think the high range is for FO tanks as they generally have pretty high nitrates. The low range would be for reef tanks with a small bioload of fish, which ( we hope ) as little or no trates in the system.

Correction..... I just realized that I put Nitrate in my subject area. I am actually concerned with NITITE and not Nitrate. Sorry for the confusion.

It's simply a way of measuring "off the scale" nitrites, something we never wanna see LOL

if your tank is stable you should read 0 nitrites, any fluctuation would be bad, the nitrates are the ones that usually read a small amount
