So my nitrates were high last week so I cleaned everything and did a 30% water change. Noticed again my corals were closing up again and so I checked it again it's up again. So Then I knew there was something dead. Found 2 Mexican turbos dead. So my question is, is it safe to do another 30% or should I do a 20 or a few 10's?

I would do a couple of 20-25% changes more frequently......
and there could be other causes, like feeding, not enough filtration etc

I know there could be other things but im pretty sure that was it. I haven't had a problem in the past and I haven't changed anything. How frequent are we talking?

Daily water changes of 4g on my 90g to bring down nitrates. Went from 20 to 10...I have never had 50. What kind of filtration do you use?

10g sump and a fluval 405. Running the fluval mainly for the carbon. I broke up LR and put in in the tray's in the fluval too.

IMO the rock in the fluval is probably trapping detritus which is breaking down into the nitrates. I would get the rock out of there, put it back in the display. Continue running some Chemipure Elite, Purigen and some filter floss in the canister changing out the filter floss every two or three days until your nitrates are back into control.

This worked for me! The LR in my sump and fluval were a total nitrate factory.
