I finally get my ammonia down to 0 after adding a chunk of live rock and doing a 10% water change last week and now my trates and trites are sky high!!!!!
What do I do?
Ah, as you can see the ammonia breaks down in to the nitrites then into nitrate. Is thios a new tank? If so its still cycling just wait it out. When the nitrite is - 0 do a good water change.
Yes, it's a fairly new tank (2 months now).
There is one blue damsel with a yellow tail and one domino damsel. They are doing fine. Speck (the domino) is very hyper and aggressive and patrols the tank like crazy! I don't think he even sleeps!!
The trates and trites have been high for about a week now. You say I should just leave it alone and it will work itself out?
yea. like catman said, when the nitrites fall to 0, begin water changes to bring down the nitrates
i really hope noone jumps on this thread because of cycling with fish... lots of people do it, but its very frowned upon by others..
the ammonia may rise again, if u brought it down by water changes.. u shouldnt really do em during the cycle from what i understand, but with fish in there - its good not to let the levels get too high.
well, at one point my levels were ok, then the ammonia went through the roof and trates and trites were fine, now it's just the opposite! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..................
I first cycled with a raw shrimp, then put in the damsels. They're doing just fine, although I won't put any other fish in there until this whole thing gets straightened out.
And yeah, the lr was cured.
