Okay, the Mandarin is out.
And he looks so fat and happy :p
Still cant seem to lower the nitrates... just tested.. still around 20 maybe even higher!!!?!?!.

if I didnt do wc's then they would rise. Ammonia and Nitrite are always zero though.
too much waste, too much fish. Okay, Mandarin is out, and maybe the Royal Grama, (depends which two fish I can catch)
Ophiura what do you mean by:
4) Refugium over wet/dry.
?? Not sure of the shorthand? yes to refugium? no to wet/dry? I have a 10 gal, that I am thinking about setting up as some type of a sump, with refugium, LS, and skimmer.
could I set up a overflow to the 10gal sump/refugium, then to pump, skimmer, and back into tank? (and continue to use my hang on skilter for filtration for a while at least until I can make my own fully acrylic wet/dry?)
THE Clam. its just a regular clam, like the kind you see a zillion of if you go to the beach (western US). a regular old plain clam. no pretty colors or anything. it woke up about 2 hrs after acclimating and prompltly burrowed down into the DSB and I have not seen him since.
Have heard conflicting advice on the use of Ocean water. not sure what to think.
My plan
MH arrive in few days. hook up lights, add cured LR, remove 2 fish, buy a GOOD skimmer, and somehow set up a sump or refugium w/the skimmer. Then I'll run that for another month, along w/ water changes and let ya know if it works. If it doesnt, I'm going to go insane, because Im not up to 20% wc per week for ever.
I hope it does, because I'd at least like to add a few hardy corals then, or ... at least something. and, I'm going to add a real clam like Offshore has.. maybe a anemone also, Can they kill corals? do nitrates kill them?

Yes, you got it, I would go with a refugium over a wet/dry for a reef if I had to make that decision. For more insite on how to plumb it and design it, I suggest a wander over to the equipment/DIY forum or some searches. Many people are happy to post (and have posted) the design of their refugium and plumbing from the tank :)

I'm planning to have both. I'm just waiting for my refugium to cycle. 125 g wet dry with a 10 g fuge all inside the stand.
You can add more macro just has to be something the tang won't eat.
Just bought some shaving brush plants from swf. Man i have pods all over my tank now.
Once the fuge is cycled then the macro is going in there.
I would wait to add any livestock.
