thank you guys
my tank is a 75 gallon reef tank with sand and crushed coral and 150lbs of live rock.
I have eleven fish in the tank. A flame scallop, royal urchin, blue star, serpant star,30 turbo snails and 30 hermit crabs. :D

11 fish, in a 75? This is probly the nitrate problem. what size , and kind of fish do you have., you will probly never be able to keep nitrates low with that many fish, due to possibly overfeeding?and overpooping, let us know the fish...cya

Your problem stems from your fish load and CC sand bed. You need to do large and frequent water changes or change the gravel to 5+" Seaflor aragonite or better yet 4" aragonite with a plenum system,IMHO.

angel you fish should be ok watch your feeding. specially if you use flake food you want something to trap the extra you mentioned a sum so if you have overflow hopefully you have a sponge filter on the outlet tube going to your sump is so rince out after each feeding if your using flake. also added live sand or arganite to your substrate get ride of some of the cc this will also help you will want to turn it live this will get the subtrate with critters string to help get ride of nitrate issues. also you could add a nitrate sponge in the water flow path to help reduce till this takes place. one last thing 5 gal a week is not enough in a 75 gal make sure you vacum since you have cc one a week atleast and change atleast 15 gal this will keep them lowered for you to. goodluck hope this info helps.
