Nitrates!

Well, I noticed some die back in algae in my tank today and performed water tests. My nitrates were around 7.5 ppm so I'm gonna try to start a long process of removing cc. I have 40 lbs ls and 20 lbs cc. Guess the cc is causing NO2 to rise. Any input would be nice if you think there could be another problem thats causing this other than the cc. Am fixing to start the long process anyway. It can't hurt to get it out! -Alex

Yes it won't hurt to remove your cc and put in all LS. As I learned from the last post I put up, 7.5ppm of NO2 is nothing to worry about. I even had replies saying fish would have no problem living with 40ppm of NO2, but inverts the need a lower level of NO2.

Oh sorry. I guess I mixed up the two. And I do mean NITRATE. But he talked about NITRATE being at 7.5ppm and later in the post rising NO2. Is he talking about two different things?? I am confused. :notsure:

trigger: with you nitrAtes down to 7.5 and the algae reducing, that should pretty well put to rest the CC is an nitrAte trap statements. Just a thought. sure sounds like the system is doing well.

My bad on the NO2, I did mean NO3. My trates are at 7.5 and trites at 0. Ph8.2 and Ammonia 0. Sorry for the confussion ivanfj and everyone else. I changed the location of my single ph and got a little bit of the cc out last night. After I was finished the filter cartridges were changed in the emperor 400. Will change the location of the ph agian in a few days. I know I need more than one ph but have been upgrading my QT and mixing container lately. -Alex
