How long has the tank been set up?
What are your other parameters (ammonia & nitrate)?
What is in your tank? LR? LS? Any fish or inverts?
What test kit are you using?

Tank has been set up for 6 weeks now.
amonia level is .50ppm
nitrate is 20 ppm
PH is 8.2
Test kit is a aquarium pharmaceuticals
I have a 2" bed of live sand not sure of pounds.
I have 5-10 lbs of base rock.
I have 15-20 lbs of live rock.
The tank has 2 snails about the size of Quarters
1 anemome hermit with a shell that is 2-1/2"
2 four stripe damsels
Hope this helps.

Your tank hasn't finished cycling. Thats why your ammonia and nitrites are still testing above zero. You should have waited until both were zero before adding anything to the tank.
Water changes might save the fish you added, but they will also make the cycle take longer.
