Nitrate 10
Nitrite 2.0
The nitrate came down yesterday before the change it was 20.Yes i'm using a Penguin biowheel filter. The cartidges have carbon right?

10 isnt bad at all even 20 in some circumstances is acceptable... anything more and things can get stressed but I had mine up to 40 in the past and after 2 weeks of water changes ever 3 days they have been down to 10 or so, (I had an anenome die in my tank) Although its a goal if you obsess over 0 nitrates it can take the fun out of this hobby some tanks just never get to 0 but is no indication of an unhealthy system. just my 2 cents

Should i worry about the 2.0 Nitrites?Does everything else look o.k.?The LFS said that i couldn't add anything as my numbers were to high?

That's a good LFS. Don't add anything until both amm and trites are ZERO. Everything else looks great.

O.K. i just changed out about 1/4-1/3 of the water.I'm gonna wait a bit and retest. The tube type test kits are good right? They were pretty expensive and i'm a believer in you get what you pay for

Oh what should my salinity be?Ideally for the crabs?

I would say 1.024-1.025
Just remember u can only bring up the SG a little at a time.
and remember that water evaporates and not salt.

What do you have in the tank? I had nitrite issues when I first started salt. They are not fun. Can you please tell us the size of the tank, how much LR you have, how long it has been running and what all is in there? Nitrites are not as toxic as ammonia, but if the fish are exposed to them for an extended period of time then they most certainly are harmful.

Oh i had done another post.Thats how they new what was in their sorry.
2 large hermit and 1 small
10 gallon
no LR or LS
It's been up since about early to mid July.
Only the filter, tank, gravel, heater and the hermies.I would take a pic but my camera is broken

I basically only set it up when i found out the hermits were marine.I had no clue what to do.So i just did what i knew and they've been doing well. Now i'm trying to do more with it.

I thought this was a cycling tank. Nitrite is no good and 2.0 is pretty high. It could cause your hermits/snail to die. My guess it is from over feeding and lack of biofilter (no rock) do you have sand? You're going to want to do some waterchanges to reduce your nitrites and less feeding.

No, she has gravel . I suspect fresh water variety. She's working on setting up a proper tank. This one has been up for a while.
A high spike in Nitrite is probably the result of overfeeding. Of course with large hermits in a small tank that could happen.
Salinity needs to be in the 1.024-1.026 range.
For the love of all that's good B-baby, DO NOT add anything else. Avoid pet stores like the plague if you can't resist the urge to buy something.

O.K. i did about a 1/3 water change yesterday and it's still the same.I can't figure it out.I seriously am only feeding a very small amount.I actually didn't feed for 2 days but felt bad for the crabs. Is their anything else that could be making it stay high?Maybe something i'm not testing for?My salinity is a little low.I'll get that up.Could that make it stay high?I'm not gonna add anything until i move tanks.I found a lady thats selling 3 20's and 1 55 for $100.So i jumped on it.When i get them I'm gonna set up a 20 immediately. Then move them their when it gets stable enough.
