No Animals???

Hi Everybody! I have some questions - I have plenty purple and green alge and I've seen white dots - on the rocks - I'm assuming they are copods(no movement) - but I don't see anything else - 2 feather dusters - very small that's it. What's going wrong - There is a sterilzer on the tank - can this be causing the problem? I did have a high nitrite/amoninia problem about 3 months ago that killed the coral I had and some of the fish. Can those problems killed everything - will my rocks and sand come back to life?:(

do you have purple coralline on your rocks?? Dosing with calcium and stronium will help grow algae.
Why do you think your rock is dead?
If you want you could buy a little live sand again, if your live rock and live sand is truely dead it could help reseed it.
Have you tested for copper, copper will kill everything in your tank!!!!!!

I made sure I didn't use any copper. And yes I do have purple alge and green I have been using additives as you stated, but I don't see any movement - I'll get some sand from LFS to maybe seed it again maybe that will help. As for the rocks, nothing is blooming.:( I did buy some calperna and that is growing but no animals except for the crabs and shrimp I put in.

could you ever see stuff moving??
i know alot of critters dont come out until night, and any sign of movement will cause them to retreat back into the rock. Try sneaking up on them, and shining a flashlight in. I do this all the time but never see anything, hope you do.

You're best bet is to buy a few lbs of lr and ls to reseed your tank. The algae and critters should then spread out to your existing lr and ls. Just make sure your lfs sand and rock has a nice amount of life on it. I'm actually placing another order online to keep my mandarin happy. That fish sure can eat!
