I bought a fairly large yellow tang today. I didnt even notice until just now when I was looking at all my fish....the tang has a white(bubble looking) thing right before it's tail on both sides in the same exact spot....I looked for pictures online and I saw pictures with the yellow tang having this in just about every photo....normal or sick? If it is sick I am going to take it back tomorrow morning!! My girlfriend said she noticed it on all of the yellow tangs when we were in the store....I was busy looking at other fish and she picked it out. Please let me know!! Thanks!!! I attached a picture I found online which is identical to my tang and has the white bubble spot in the same exact place as my tang which I circled in red.

I am by far no expert but no that is not ick. Look at other pictures of yellow tangs and you will notice that mark on them too. I guess it is just a mark of the breed

That is it's "spike" ( can't remember the correct word) all YT's have them. They fight with them. I believe they are razor sharp.

No, that is a natural part of the fish. Its commonly called a sword, or spike. As a defense mechanism, the fish will flare this "sword" and slice open whatever perceived thread the fish encounters.

hahahaha Thanks!! I checked it out online right after I posted this and found out it is a razor sharp retractable spine used in defense.....crazy! Thanks!!! As soon as I put it in the tank it started eating black worms that I was feeding my green chromis....glad to see it's healthy!
