No more controversy, skimmers rock !

I thought I'd give an update on my skimmer since it was such a hot topic six weeks ago. After reading all the debates, I decided to install a skimmer. I had to go hang - on and purchased an Aqua C Remora, using the Maxijet PH. Installation was easy (just used the leveling screws included) and plugged it in.
It's been running four weeks and has been pulling brown skimmate out almost from day one. I have definitely noticed an improvement in the looks of the ricordia, bubble coral, and fox coral that I have in the tank. I also was having bouts with cyanobacteria that have since disappeared. The calupera in my refugium also seems more healthy.
As a control point, I changed NOTHING else in the tank. Feeding/lighting/water changes/general housekeeping all the exact same as before the skimmer.
For the ease of installation, relatively low cost, and apparent improvement in the health of my corals, I am very happy I decided to go this route. If the maintenance of the skimmer becomes an issue, I will report back, but I really do not foresee any major maintenance issues with this skimmer, as there is virtually nothing to maintain. I'm not ready to say this is a miracle cure to all that ails folks, but for me, it has definitely improved my tank.
Thanks again to this board

Sounds like you are pleased...as far as I'm concerned there never was a controversy....a skimmer can be a very positive addition to the filtration of a reef system...skimmerless is definitely possible...but each time I empty the cup on my EuroReef I'm glad I have a skimmer!!!!

Amen!
And if anyone worries about a skimmer pulling trace elements and such out of a tank, a simple water change will help to replenish them.

Glad to hear. I haven't looked into the Aqua C Remora yet, but was interested from reading here (my prizm doesn't seem to be the best). I always seen it suggested for 30-40 gal. tanks, are you using yours on the 75 gal.? That is what I have, and put off looking at them thinking it was for smaller tanks.

The specs on mine say 75 gal max. My view was it would pull off DOC's that otherwise were building up in the tank. Another week has gone by, and the tank just seems to be getting better. No bad algae, the corals I have are looking better and better.
From some of the 'adjusting' issues I've seen on this board for other skimmers, this skimmer was purely plug 'n play. For my money, it has been great. Now I just need to see on the longer term, how it operates.
The "Pro" is for bigger tanks if you want more skimming capacity.

Nice. What ever happened to that thread about the skimmerless tank? I cant even remember the name of the starter. One of the last things I remember reading was that a skimmer was being added. Was it druluv? Now I'm going to have to do a search:notsure:
