no more goldfish

I hear that FW feeders are bad for Lions and I have tried to get him to eat other live foods and I guess he would rather go hungry he just ignores the food. Eventually I give in (give up) and offer him his goldfish. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get him to switch? BTW the foods I have tried are bloodworms, mysis, and brine shrimp.

try silversides and krill and wigle it in front of him. how long has he been eating goldfish? its ok not to feed him if he dosent eat frozen it may acually help if he is hungry for him to want to go after the frozen. DO NOT keep feeding him goldfish it could kill him. if he dosent eat for a week or so then feed live but not goldfish try mollies.

Do not feed them goldfish, feeder fish or whatever they need the omega 3 and 4 fatty acids which are in marine fish only not fresh water but omega acids can be found in some plants like lindseed {omega 3 ] and honey {omega 3 +4} goldfish and such will kill scorpionfish, its not its proper diet, wrong acids.

I've weaned a Volitan Lion in the past onto frozen foods. Keep yours hungry! If he doesnt eat for 2 weeks then I would start worrying. Since Lionfish are generally not that active, they can go along time with no food. Keeping your lion hungry is the key here. I would try the silversides, mine loved em. Good luck to ya! :D

A week to Ten days with out gold fish will get him hungry enough to try something "new" with out hurting or starving him to death!!
It will probably be harder on YOU than the fish ;)
Krill is good, I can't get Silversides around here, bigger chunks of Squid are good (like Aqua-Yums), also try whole-frozen-raw-with shell and everything-Shrimp (sized for your Lion, Not those 4" prawns  ) I add Selcon and Multi-Vit, if I put garlic on it he won't touch it.
Rather than "waving" a chunk of food on a stick at him while he's "hanging"out in a corner somewhere, You may want to wait until he's active, moving about, "hunting". Usualy alittle after lights out.
Also, they would rather grab it out of the water colum than off the bottom or off a stick. So when he's out hunting, take a piece of Krill/whatever and flick it/splash it lightly on the water till you get his attention-watch his eyes- and then release it into the current, as it flows past him he'll generaly find it irresistable to strike. Unless he's just not hungry, then he'll just "watch" it float past.
If he's not showing "any" interest in food then you have a problem.

I've heard this from several people who tried it successfully. The process takes 2-3 weeks to complete, but I've never heard anyone try it unsuccessfully.
Keep the lion pretty hungry, feed every third day or so. Get in the pattern of dropping feeders in the tank the same way every time (same spot in the tank, from the same height, etc.). Make it very repetitive. The lion will eventually make an association between hunger and food being put in the tank in that particular spot. Do this for 2-3 weeks until the lion starts going to "the feeding area" any time you walk to the tank. One the associate is there, try droping a silverside in the tank. Generally, if the lion has that association, and is hungry, he'll snap it up just as it hits the water. He won't have time to tell it's not a feeder.
Good luck.
