Of course I am no pro...but until recently, we were running our 55 gallon on powerheads only with hang-on skimmer and lights on timer. We just recently got a sump/refugium. I would think it would be fine as long as you do make sure you have the right turnover rate on the tank water. You should do as Kipass says and point at least one at the surface to agitate it. For one week though, I think you'll be fine.

Don,
Have you had any problems with the set up so far ?
If everything is going well .... then it's already safe.
I think making changes to an existing system can sometimes cause more "new" problems than before.
I run everything on timers - whether I'm here or not.
Have someone come in and top off tanks, and keep eye out.
Other than that - a good set up should be able to be run with our without someone in the room.

Broomer my only concern is if the electric goes out and my sump over flows , even if I havent had any problems in the past six months. I am setting up auto top off , its from ultra life float switch.( 59.00 ). other than that my 90 gal reef is really doing great. great corals and fish , this site really help me out , and I would say its keeping my interest on this hobby. How long has this site been up, I am 45 young and I did this ten years ago , but this time around I am enjoying it better. But I have met customers in my store that has been in this hobby for twenty years, and some of there tanks are twenty years old. one guy has a reef going for twenty years, he must be doing something right. well thanks for the info
