No room for a protein skimmer....

I have an Eclipse 3 tank and as some of you may already know, it doesn't have any kind of room to put a protein skimmer. I went to my lfs and he recommended a puriten pack instead. Has anybody heard of a "puriten" pack that you put with your filter (lay on top) in an Eclipse 3 tank that acts like a protein skimmer? I'm curious to see if / how this works. I do trust my lfs too....they haven't stared me wrong yet! Any advice? I'm not smart enough to build my own skimmer!

Cool...thanks guys. Hey Kipass4130, I use Fintastic and Frank & Peg's (both on South Boulevard). Maybe this puriten thing is something new? Fintastic said it would do the work of a protein skimmer without all the external stuff. I'll check out that website too Marinerock. See what goodies they have!

its actually called" purigen "and its made by seachem, its claim is that the resin removes organic waste sorta like a skimmer.

Frank & Peg's is in the Starbrook Shopping Center (near Archdale, I believe). Honestly, I like the customer service from Fintastic and they are very knowledged and willing to answer ALL questions. Their prices may be a little higher than F & P but not by much. Fintastic also has a MUCH bigger and better assortment of saltwater inhabs. You should check it out if you are ever down in the Queen City.

either that or it was too pricey. I agree, Fintastic is pricey....I dropped quite a bit of change when I started out....man, talk about eyes bigger then they needed to be. I still can go in there and buy up everything in sight! Do you have any lfs in Salisbury?

We have a Marinland 30 gallon with hood and Eclipse filter. I was able to get a hang on Prism skimmer to work. You just have to get a out your Dremel tool and carve until everything fits.
