No Substrate in Aggresive

Has anyone ever run an aggressive tank without ANY substrate? I mean just bare glass. I'm planning a 150 with a V. lion and 1 or 2 other fish. There will be about 80lbs LR. I know that without substrate, I will be limiting my fish options. (ie: No Wrasses). Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the topic:thinking:

Many people on here run bare-bottom systems. Some people run just glass, but a lot run their system with just enough substrate to cover the glass. On my bare bottom system, I used about half a centimeter of sand just in the front of that tank since I like the look better.

I'm personally against the bare bottom under any circumstances. My principle is to make my fishes feel at home as much as possible even at the expense of a possible detritus accumulation in the substrate..

The fish I'm planning on are not bottom dwellers, so I don't think there will be any issues.

Lions sleep on the sandbed, the dwarfs nestle in the rocks. If a lion finds a good spot, itll nestle in a crevice, but volitans usually fell comfortable on teh bottom.

Liontamer--
What you say makes sense. I've noticed a dent in the sand that I couldn't explain. Probably where the lion rests when I'm not around. Whenever I come in the room, straight to the top goes Lola. She knows that I am almighty ruler of the food supply. As a result, I never see her "resting." With that said, how deep would you make a sand bed with my purpose in mind.

You shouldnt need more than an inch or so. Unless youve got a serious digger, my lions always just sat there and moved just a little sand if any.

Yea, ive got a really thin aroganite sand bed, maybe an inch or less, never really measured. They dont bother it. MY tusk on the other hand attacks the sand when shrimp roll across the bottom of it, but it still hasnt hurt much.
