No Substrate or live Aragonite?

My LFS tells me that the key to a healthy coral tank is no substrate. But I also hear that live Aragonite and other substrates do there own filtration aswell and is very healthy for your tank.
So which is really better

hes actually right. It is very popular to run tanks bare bottom. Many old school reefers will do bare bottom, but then you lose so much diversity, plus the bio filtration of sand is extremely nice. Just keep some sand sifters to makesure it stays healthy sand.

+1...Sand looks so much nicer, just have a sandsifter.

I would just do like an inch of sand or less. For sand to be really effective it needs to be about 4" or more.
