For some reason the past 2 days both drains have started to suck air, any advice? I didn't change anything with the tanks nor did anything happen so i'm not sure why they are so loud now...

when you says drains? Overflows? do you have that pipe?
yeahh sorry i wasn't too specific. both tanks are pre-drilled, the pipes i have behind the overflow. they are sucking air like crazy and idk what happened that changed it from being quiet to loud.

Sounds to me that the top air escape hole is plugged. A toothpick should help if that's the problem. That is.. if it's anything like my drain pipe.

not sure, mine is just a 1" PVC pipe stuck into the bulkhead that is in the hole on the bottom of the tank.

you can easily make a durso standpipe
the top of this is a cap with a simple hole drilled in it, usually with an airline tube sticking out.

sounds like you just have a stand pipe and the water is making a circular funnel to get in the pipe.that makes alot of noise.if you put your finger where the water goes in and break the swirl it will stop for a little bit but come back.
make the durso pipe like the above post they are very quiet.

Hey Salt Life;
It sounds like you just have a pipe sticking up and a open top. Have you tried to clean inside the drains? Something might have got down the pipe. A piece of algae a snial ect... Maybe the slime coating that builds up in the drains has gotten to be to much reducing the internal pipe size.
A pic of the culpret would be nice.
Good Luck.

yeah, it's just a piece of pvc with no top on it or anything "fancy" like the dursos. i will see if it needs to be cleaned out but it happened randomly so im not sure what the deal is. im not on my own computer now but i will try and get a pic of it within the next day or so.
thanks for the replies everyone
