Noisey overflow

I'm curious are there micro bubbles in your oveflow before it drains down to your fuge.......I get micro bubbles from my overflow and it's due to the height the water is dropping from the tank to the water surface in the overflow box......If your getting bubbles at that point it's going to carry into your sump/fuge area. The way to combat the micro bubbles in the overflow area would be an adjustment to your stand pipes in your overflow box.....
I get very minimal micro bubbles into the intake section of my sump.....Of course I use a filter sock on my siphon line, so I wouldn't notice anything there, but on my open channel (stand pipe) I have very minimal and by the time the water leaves the intake chamber they are dispersed......I also have an air hole drilled just above the water line in the sump where the air can be vented as well......
Interesting point. I have no air bubbles in my overflow, but I do have bubbles comming out of the bottom of the tube into my fuge. So the air must be comming from the hole in the top of and sump piping. But I'm not sure what I can do about that, make the hole smaller possibly? Or maybe if I reduce the size of the line running from the overflow into the fuge.
Right now it's piped so it runs straight from the bottom of the tank into my fuge, just a straight run of hose about 18" or so (with a sock on it and it I still get bubbles. And lots of bubbles come out of the bottom.

So what your saying is you have NO bubbles in your overflow.......And the overflow drains directly into your fuge.......Your getting bubbles through your sock....What type of sock are you running....Is it a felt type sock or a mesh type sock.....

Yes, no bubbles in oveflow, and it runs right into the fuge and bubbles come out. I'm using a felt sock and the bubbles are bubbling over the top of it, like the head on a good beer. The top of ths sock is about 2" - 3" above the water level and the bubbles still get over it. It kind of looks like the bubbles you get in the top of your skimmer only clean.
I think I'm either going to make the hole in the top of the sump piping smaller or make the discharge hose into the fuge smaller.

Well first problem if the water is "bubbling" over the top of the sock it's plugged and needs changed......Filter socks need changed quite regularly, and left unchanged will cause water quality issues......Water should be running through the sock not over the top. I can't imagine the water flow being so fast or great it's overflowing the sock.
Try taking your finger and plugging the hole your referring to and see what affect that might have on the bubble issue......Somewhere air is being injected and mixing as your describing......

The sock is clean! It's weird, I'm going to play with it tonight.
Thanks for the suggestions, it's always something with a tank isn't it.
