Noisy Filter

I just got a "Whisper" power filter for my 30 gallon. It is extremely noisy it sounds like a swarm of bees. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to make it queiter. I had one for a 10 gallon and couldn't hear a thing. Can someone tell me what might be wrong. Could it be defective or what. Thanks

I would disassemble that filter and clean it real good most of the time the noise on these filters are from sand or debris in the magnetic chamber that holds the impeller cleaning it out usually fixes this problem. another problem in the suction tube not seated properly cleaning it will also fix this problem once its put back together.

Agree. Might have gotten some sand, cc in the impellor.

look at the impeller and make sure it isnt cracked or damaged in any way. that is the only other option if the others didnt work.
hey try one more thing take it completely apart impeller and all out of the unit and plug it up there shouldnt be any sound from it. If there is the magnetic motor is going on it. its rare for this to happen though.

I just tried that and it didn't help. So does that mean it is broken and if I want a quiet filter I need to to get another one?
