Hi there!
I know you all are probably sick of noob questions but i promise you im trying very hard to educate myself about SW before getting trigger happy with the hobby. :)
I recently purchased a 45 gallon tank w/stand and canopy and a box of misc stuff from a woman who was too busy to keep her tank going. She did however have it running saltwater with only the filtration she gave me!
here is the filter she gave me with it (ancient and dirty,i know lol):

And here is a few of the other things..im sure the clear block with the hole in it does something with the filter...im just a dummy and cant figure it out yet o_o

My Potential wants in my aquarium:
50 pounds live rock
alot of live sand
5-6 fish with only one being of a medium size, the others are smaller fish.
very basic and limited soft *edit* corals if any.
Ive gone up to 5 LFS's and talked to workers and many other experienced SW people ive come across and i NEVER get the same answers to any of my questions and so i find myself confused in the sea of options for my tank! Ive heard should get a 450 dollar custom wet dry system *which theres no way i could afford* all the way down to people telling me if i do good weekly water changes and cleaning with a good skimmer id barely need filtration at all! Im so conflicted!!! lol

so heres what im thinking about
:
this light fixture from Current USA,the price is so good,it makes me worry...anyone ever used one?
Click here to see the PC fixture!
As far as filtration,im looking at this Bak Pak 2 paired with the old filter that came with the tank for support:

Now with 3-4 powerheads going and weekly 10-20% water changes, would this system be doable? :) Sorry this post is so long! thanks so much to anyone who reads this and/or gives thier thoughts!!

the filtration looks good, if you get the lights you will be limited to softies only, you probey dont need to do as big water changes, or as many, do like 5 gallons per week, or 10 every other or every couple weeks, other than that it looks like it will be a nice tank

thanks so much for the reply! :happyfish
For some reason i put "hard corals" on there but i did mean soft! lol im very much more into the fish keeping then reef keeping :) so it doesnt bother me being limited on corals at all! Im so excited to start cycling my tank once i order the supplies, yay! <3 thanks again!

That's what I thought too before I started looking at the zoos! OMG they're beautiful. I don't know how good this pic is going to be. I bought these today. There's about 250 on this rock... or so the ad said. Paid only $75 for them.

You can keep zoos with the lights your ordering. You will be able to keep LPS corals also. Just keep them near the top.
