Nordy's 12 gal Aquapod

Well, after a couple of weeks I finally got my new nano set up at work! I had placed the bioball and ceramic ring media in the sump of my 55 gal reef tank for the past week to inoculate it (forgot about the foam block that came with the new tank). Mixed up 15 gals for my DT and used the water I drained out to place in the nano. I used sand and LR from my 55 to place in the aquapod and schlepped it over to work. As you can see in the pic, it's still a little cloudy but should be settled down tomorrow. I got a new master reef test kit for the new tank and after testing the water to make sure it's safe, will start putting some corals and other stuff in the new tank. I figure using the "old" sand, lr, and water will get the nano off to a quick start.
I won't be able to transfer a lot of stuff from the 55, but have some zoas, ployps, and rics, plus maybe a branch of my hammer and frogspawn that I would like to move to the new tank. What's also fun is replacing the LR I took from the 55 and doing some aquascaping and maybe adding some new corals down the road once the nano begins to take shape.
What would y'all suggest for fish for the tank? I figure I can only put 2 in there and am looking for something that is suitable for a small tank but that is also colorful.
Thanks!
John

Thanks! I didn't realize until I placed the rock that a little blue shroom had hitchiked into the new tank. A couple of hermits and snails also got scooped up in the sand so if they are still alive when I get into work tomorrow, it's a good thing!

Got some more pics-the water has cleared up, and it's looking good! The one shroom is inflating and the snails and the hermit are active and moving around and I brought in a little rock w/some nice yellow polyps this morning. Water parameters look good and I will bring in a few more things tomorrow-stay tuned!

While you do have some really nice pieces of rock in there... try to aquascape some caves and holes in between for better water circulation and aesthetics... I'll fill the tank out better too and give you places to put corals.

nice tank, but i would hav to agree with the rockwork, there wil probablly be dead spots in the middle of it, unless you put a strong power head but not to strong, its going to look great with some nice corals and i think a firefish would be cute the purple one, and a clown of some sort

Yup, just spread your rock out a bit. Also with those yellow polyps, you probably already know this as I think you said they came from your bigger tank, but they spread like wildfire. Make sure that you want them in there, because you don't have much real estate to begin with so you want to choose carefully what corals you do stock. Can't wait to see it stuffed with coral.

hey nordy, why did you go with the 12g aquapod? looking to get one myself.
Well, It was the size I wanted because it filled up a corner space in the conference room at work and it seemed like a well built piece. Plus, after searching online, I found that my LFS had it on sale-more expensive than online, but without the shipping it was only a few bucks more expensive. The only regret I have, after setting it up, is that I won't be able to keep SPS in it due to the compact fluorescent lamps-they do put out 54W combined but it's not the same as the T-5's I have on my 55 at home.

I will keep an eye on the yellow polyps-I got them a few weeks ago and the ones in the pic are the only ones I have. I just moved the one rock to the new tank but may take it back home as it may not work in the nano.
I have done some re-arranging since my last post and it didn't look nice enough to post more pics today but will do so tomorrow. I did spread the rock out some more, brought some corals in today, and also got a couple of fish today-a six line wrasse and a firefish. Will post some more pics tomorrow!

here are some new pictures. The tank's come a long way since the first picture in the thread, which was Sunday! Everybody seems happy, water parameters are good, and the fish seem happy! I will try to take some better pics tomorrow-these don't really do the tank justice.

Got some better pictures after adjusting the white balance on my camera!
I ordered some large (2.5"!) rics from flricordia today-a couple each of orange, rainbow green, and pink. I will be putting at least one of each color in the nano and I can't wait. His rics are always great and these will be unusually large.

Thanks! It's more challenging and fun setting up a nano, after doing a larger tank. I find myself introducing a lot of visitors to our office to SW fish keeping which is one of the best parts of having the new tank!
