normal dwarf fuzzy behavior

The fuzzy dwarf is considered an active swimmer compaired to most lions. They become very active at dusk searching for food.
Some/most of them like to pearch on rocks or just lay at bottom to rest.

i've had mine for about 6 months. she spends most of the day upside down in a cave somewhere. whenever she smells food, she comes out. when only the actinics are on, during the last 4 hours of daytime, she'll swim around a little more. she'll also come out when i'm seen near the tank.

i havent seen mine at night, but for the most part it just hangs out perched on things or hiding somewhere. when the powerheads shut off it knows food is coming so it comes to the front of the tank and waits

When I wake up in the morning I see my Fuzzy Dwarf swimming around. He's pretty active. Then when the tank lights come on he stays upside down perched under a rock. Doesn't move from there until 6pm when the lights go off. Then he becomes active again, swimming around, looking for food.

I never see mine actually swimming about. He stealthily sneaks from one spot to another and just hangs out.
Till I break out the feeding stick. Then he's like a little puppy.

how do you tell the females apart from the males? i know it has to do with the bands, but how many bands = female or male?

Without trying to sound like a smart ---; what difference does it make? Lionfish seem to tolerate each other pretty well, regardless of ---; assuming they have enough room. I've heard that they have spawned in captivity on occasion, but no young(larve) were ever raised. Short of an autopsy; I've never really heard of a RELIABLE method. I do remember reading about some lions that acted like a pair in a pre-spawning ritual and the author described a difference in banding pattern, but I sure wouldn't go by that one experience. I had 2 volitans several years ago that I was sure were a pair and was sure which was the male--but never could really tell, other than by their behavior, and sexual differences. I bred FW discus and angels for years, to support my SW habit, and you just learn to tell the sexes when you have a pair. (Even tho you might not be able to describe it, you get to the point when you just know.

fuzzy's are pretty sexually dimorphic. females have 4-6 bands on their pectoral fins while males have 6-10. males have larger heads. males pectoral fins, if you could fold them back, are much longer than females.
i wouldn't mix two males in the same tank. a male and numerous females would be fine, and so would a group of females.

Ok, thanks. And it's just kind of nice to know which gender you have.
Where can I get feeder shrimp? Are they like the ones at walmart?

most lfs will have ghost shrimp...maybe not in NE or WY. wal-mart would sell raw shrimp with the frozen foods.

Ok, but in their fw section they have glass feeder shrimp. Will they work or is that a no no
I don't know for a fact, but I have read on here that fw fish (inverts) are not good feeders for sw fish.
I personally don't know how true that is.
