I treated for cynobacteria and i dont have that but i have red algae on all my coral and its getting really bad. Has anyone had this where it gets really dark red on all your coral. My phosphate is a high and im lowering it now-could this be the reason?

kb,
red algae is also caused by lack of lighting and aeration. The high phosphates only add to the problem. Cyno is killed off but not eliminated with the chemicals. You need to use a phosphate sponge to remove it from your tank. Since my last cyno episode, coraline algae is now florishing. I have a few spots of red algae about the size of quarters but nothing to speak of. How much lighting and aeration do you have? When is the last time you changed your bulbs? I also believe in carbon.

wrassefan, right now i have a phosphate remover in my trickle filter, the weird thing is my whole back wall is all green algae but red on my coral. I have an oceanic 150g fo tank with whatever lights came with it. I know they're the right strength because i saw something that said how much you should have and thats what i have. two of the four have the blue tint to them too. I have 2 airstones in the tank too. my lights are on from 9:30am to 10pm.

kb,
do you have the water flowing thru the phosgard or just sitting in the trickle filter? It won't work well if the water is not flowing thru the bag of phosphate remover. Also, you must replace the phosphate remover after about 2 weeks or it starts to leech phosphate back into the tank. I would also try some black diamond carbon for about 2 weeks and then remove. Sounds like the lights are on 12.5hrs which is excessive for a fo tank. I would try changing out a couple of the bulbs. If you have 2 "blue ones", I would replace one with a 20,000k daylight. Hope this helps. Keep me posted.

almost forgot...the 2 airstones might not be enough water movement. You might want to add a couple of powerheads on opposite ends of the tank for better circulation. It could be getting hung up around the corals and rock.

wrassefan, I have the phosphate remover in the tray of the trickle filter with the water coming out right through the bag of phosguard. The trickle filter has two returns that go back to the tank and it really moves the water good. I'll check the exact lights i have and post it monday, thanks-Kevin
