Not My Clown!! :'(

well about 2 or 3 weeks ago i bought these beautiful 2 black baby clownfish...they were both perfect... i was taking a nap and heard my filter go crazy and it was one of my clowns...it had got caught in the filter! i am so mad that i never put that little cover on the end of the filter i could really shoot myself!
they were doing so well together! they stuck together no matter where they went...i was hoping for a nice pair...and it finally looked like i was going to get one!!! but not anymore with just one clown!
so what's going to happen to the clown that is left in the tank?? i mean...it was the smaller one of the two...in 2 to 3 weeks has it had time to change into the male?? how long does it take to change? it still doesnt have all of its stripes-the middles one isnt a ring yet...its just on the top and sides (the other, bigger clown that died...its white middle ring was almost complete)...how do i go about trying to make a pair again? i am so sad right now

Very, very sorry for your loss - I love clownfish also.
My understanding is that the remaining clown will eventually become female if left alone in the tank for a few weeks. You should be able to form a new pair with a smaller clownfish than the one you have. See, now THIS clown gets to be the girl!!!
And BTW, I am currently watching my two which I am hoping will bond - one black and white with a regular Ocellaris. :)

I think the rule of thumb is markedly smaller so it hasn't turned female yet then the one you have now should change sexes to a female and the tiny one will (hopefully) be a male
