i have a yellowtail damsel in a 29 gallon tank. this is a continuation of my other post, nitirite 0 ammonia 0 nitrate 10 ph 8.2 i thought my damsel had ich because i saw white spots on him, but then today they are gone, the whole time hes been eating and swimming around freely with no real signs of anything, the only thing i cant tell is if hes breathing hard or not, he opens his mouth frequently but idk if its too fast. but anyways i know the ich cycle takes a few days before they drop off of the fish and reproduce. whats going on here? im i just seeing things? also his fins behind the yellowtail arent transparent it looks like something is on them....idk im new at this any and all help is needed thanx

Damsels are pretty resistant to ich, but they're not immune, so it's possible though unlikely. It could have been some sand or something, or it could be lyphocysts, especially based on your description of the tail. These are caused by stress and poor diet. It can be easily corrected by feeding decent food, such as a high quality frozen or pellet food, soaked in vitamins such as Selcon. I'd recommend frozen over the pellets or freeze dried, though. Try a formula 1 or 2 based frozen and make sure you don't feed the same thing every time; mix it up a bit.

Part of the life cycle of ich is dropping off the fish. It could well be that the fish has very few or no parasites at the moment, but once you are have introduced the parasite to your system, then it will likely survive and reemerge.
