imo PC's are junk.. they cost too much and get little in return.. t5's are the way to go... you end up spending the same on the initial setup but you get to run the bulbs ( which are like so sooo many times stronger while running at less wattage ) longer (they can last anywhere from 1 year to 1 1/2 years ) while PC's only last about 6 months...
side note: t5 are only as good as their reflector... stick with the GOOD names and you should be ok.. ( ice-cap, tek, aquatenics to name a few... i dont know about the newst line of nova extreem .. pro or somthing but imo nova makes nothing worth the $$ )

yea, but its worth it(i guess...lol). You would probably be ok with a 4 bulb TEK if you don't want any sps or clams in the future, but if you think you might I would get one of the above listed. Also some people are having luck with the new nova extreme pro but I don't know, nova usually isn't that good.
the wattage you get depends on the length of your tank... of you have a hood.. the cheaper rout is to go retrofit.. they are "bare bone" units to say.. they come with the ballast, endcaps & standoffs, wire and plug.. you put it together.. and buy bulbs and your good to go...

I'm not normally a big fan of Current, but a Nova Pro or a Sundial would be cheaper alternatives.
It still makes me giggle that the call a single "contoured" reflector individual.

Make sure each bulb has an individual reflector, it increaces the output a lot, (300% maybe, but not sure), and current has one big reflector, so most likely you don't want current.
