Nova Extreme Pro

I have had a 48" nova extreme pro for about 2 weeks now. The fans get painfully loud at times, my LFS says this is normal and i am just not used to it. However, i do not believe this is the case seeming as though i cannot talk on the phone in the same room when it is loud. The fan sounds like a commercial sized ShopVac sitting next to me. My TV volume also has to be turned up just about to the max in order to hear it.
If i tap on the top of the canopy the sound temporarily subsides but it progressively gets louder within an hour. After initially hearing this sound after setting up the canopy I investigated the situation and found the following...
The plastic piece running across the top is flush where is screws into the side that the shield slides out of but on the other side the top plastic is not flush and sits a little higher than the side.
I have had troubles concerning the vendor with the LFS and really do not want to have to take it back and cause anymore commotion if i do not have to. Has anyone else had this problem? Any resolutions?
I'm trying to post pictures but cannot figure out how to edit them to make them small enough for the attc. sorry, will post as soon as i can figure it out

Agree that it is not a Nova Extreme Pro. Looks like it is probably a 4 bulb Nova Exteme. I have two Nova Extreme fixtures and the fans are quiet on both (8 bulb 48" Nova Extreme and a 36" Nova extreme Pro). The fans should not be as loud as you are describing.

Yeah that definitely is not a Pro fixture. It looks like a regular Nova Extreme. How many bulbs does it have? I hope you didn't pay for a "Pro" and got a regular fixture. Maybe one of the fan blades are bent. I have bought 2 different Nova light systems and they are very quiet. Seems like you got a defective one. I would return it and get a new one. Those things aren't cheep.

You all are right, i am wrong it is not the pro, it is the extreme. It has 4 bulbs- 2-T5 HO and 2-Actinics. Here are pictures of the box and the reflectors.

box
also, my LFS had me pay somewhere half way between 300 and 400 for it. (sorry, dont know if we can post prices of things). Think that is a little steep since it is not the pro? I'm feeling like it is.

I didn't realize they were putting their contoured reflector in the regular Nova Extremes now. That makes it better than the old Nova Extremes with a single reflector. As far as the fan goes, if you don't want to deal with the LFS that sold it to you try contacting Current USA directly and see if you can get them to do anything for you.
As far as price, you can find the 48" Pro online for about the price you paid for this and the Pro has 6 bulbs not just 4.

The LFS said my tank was not wide enough for the 6-bulb model (now i know he was referring to the Pro). I had to pay about $71 to add 4 SETS of moonlights on the underside of the canopy. My tank is roughly about a 12" wide and I'm assuming that he is saying that it is not wide enough due to my penguin filter system hooking over the side.
I kept thinking that i payed quite a hefty price for the model i received. Its good to know that others in the same hobby feel the same on the price. thank you.
General consensus says to just contact Current USA?

i have a 80 gal tall and it is only 12" wide inside to inside and 13" over all i was also concern about the same issue i have a HOB overflow box and a HOB auqaclear but the legs on the pro are a 12" and 2" tall and the light is 11"1/2 and then the lights set futher in than that.. so i think the pro will work fine on your tank.

hmmmm good food for thought.
I think i am going to cut my losses with being stiffed on the set up and just start using the internet stores and the non-LFS in a bigger city an hour away when i can make the trip.
As for the lighting, i'm going to contact Current USA. Maybe i can catch them while my fan is being crazy loud and they can hear for themselves just what i mean.
Maybe the fan is possessed, since i started this thread the fan has gone from humming to loud at times but not the painfully loud shopvac sound. This is good though, I've been studying for a heap of exams today and it has not directly been the usual distraction it tends to be. Instead it is indirectly taking me away from my studying by giving me an excuse to procrastinate and have me stuck on this discussion board all day.

Thank you everyone for your help, i really appreciate it.

its not the nova pro for sure. from the pics, it sure looks like the fixture was dropped or something. the price u paid for ur regular nova extreme is a lot. definitely contact current usa to see if they can send u a replacement fan. with the nova pro, u will hv no problem running the penguin or any hob filter.
