If LR is cured, you can usually put it in your tank as long as it was not shipped to you. During transport, LR will experience die-off, causing it to become uncured rock. If you bought your cured LR at an LFS, and went straight home to put it in your tank, then you are probably ok. If LR was shipped to you, or spent hours in a bag/box, I would cure it in a seperate tank with saltwater, a heater, and a PH.
When you get LR, smell it. If it smells somewhat rotten then it is uncured. If it does not smell, or smells like saltwater, it's cured. If cured, put it in your tank. If not cure it in a seperate container.
You can introduce cured LR to your tank without concern, no acclimation required, IME.

I have a similar question... What if I bought the LR from SWF.com. They cured it already, right??
Reguardless, when I receive the LR, on first inspection of it, if I do not think it smells bad, is it ok to put in the tank? :help: :notsure:
TIA

Do not put any LR in an established tank that has been shipped to your house, there will be die off. If you are just starting your tank then yes put the rock in.
I also do not like to put more then 15lbs of rock in an established tank at a time, just that can cause a spike.

So the only way to tell if its not cured is by smell?? My LR which has been in my tank for 2 years, has a bit of a smell to it. I am assuming if there is an overabundance of stench, its not cured.??? I was just about to by some from someone who lives about 75 miles away. I want to be sure that when i get there, the only thing Im looking for is a stench.
